Ranking for Power 25: July 9, 2011
Last week John Cena Rank #3 on the Power 25 but this week July 9th he Ranks at #1

"During a tense confrontation with Mr. McMahon, John Cena convinced the powerful CEO to reinstate CM Punk so he can face him at WWE Money in the Bank. It's a gutsy move, because if Punk leaves Chicago with the WWE Title, The Champ will be fired."

VIDEO: CM Punk and John Cena showed Respect for one another

CM Punk and John Cena showed Respect for one another

WWE Champion and CM Punk have had a lot of negative things to say about each other in recent weeks leading up to their showdown at Money in the Bank on 7/17, but the two superstars had very nice things to say about one another following a recent match.

After John Cena defeated CM Punk in the main event of the WWE’s recent live event in Brisbane, Australia, Punk grabbed a microphone from ringside and actually put over the WWE champion. Punk says that while The Rock is off filming movies, Cena remains part of the WWE universe and performs in sickness and in health. Punk and Cena shook hands and Punk went to the back.

VIDEO OF THAT BELOW:

Cena then grabbed the mic and put over CM Punk also putting over Punk and showing respect. Cena called Punk the best wrestler in WWE today and said their Money in the Bank match will be the match of the year – even bigger than he and The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania.

John Cena VS CM Punk UPDATED

UPDATED: - WWE posted something similar to this story last week.

On his last night in WWE, a reinstated CM Punk challenges WWE Champion John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank, emanating from his hometown of Chicago. Not only does Punk intend to humble The Champ and the entire WWE Universe with a decisive final victory on July 17, but change WWE forever by leaving with its most coveted prize fastened around his waist – simultaneously putting Cena’s career in jeopardy.

This momentous match nearly didn't happen. In response to Punk’s controversial rant on the June 27 edition of Raw - during which he lambasted WWE management, his fellow Superstars and the WWE Universe - WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon suspended The Second City Savior, effectively ending Punk's WWE career three weeks before what would become his final match. The following week, however, Punk's bold aspirations were shockingly salvaged by the WWE Champion himself.

In an emotionally charged confrontation with the WWE CEO, Cena argued that Punk had every right to say what he did, and had earned the right to compete for the WWE Title on July 17. Following Cena's impassioned words, Mr. McMahon agreed to take a “calculated risk” and reinstate Punk under one condition: If Punk manages to leave Chicago with the championship, Cena will be fired on the spot.

Weeks prior, after defeating his longtime nemesis Rey Mysterio at Capitol Punishment, The Second City Savior performed what he called “the most honest thing the WWE Universe has ever seen” by vehemently demanding a WWE Title Match with The Champ at the second annual Money in the Bank event. Instead, Punk was placed in a Triple Threat Match to determine the No. 1 contender in which he defeated Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio. The New Nexus leader then revealed that his WWE contract will expire on the same night as his WWE Title bout in the Windy City, vowing to end his career in WWE as its champion.

Never truly seeing eye to eye, Cena and Punk have clashed numerous times in the past, but this collision will prove to be their most bombastic encounter yet, with massive implications on the future of WWE. With Cenation behind him, can The Champ overcome the calculating Punk in his hometown? Or will The Second City Savior leave Chicago - and WWE - with the WWE Championship and end Cena's career? To find out, tune in to WWE Money in the Bank, July 17, only on pay-per-view.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW RESULTS 7/4/2011

MONDAY NIGHT RAW
7/4/2011

in LAS VEGAS – While the United States of America let freedom ring in celebration of Independence Day on Monday night, the WWE Universe around the globe was still reeling from CM Punk’s controversial “declaration of independence” one week earlier. The Straight Edge Superstar’s inflammatory words and unprofessional conduct on Raw resulted in a suspension that would essentially end his WWE career three weeks before his contract expiration – and his anticipated WWE Championship clash with reigning titleholder John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank.

However, support for Punk’s reinstatement would ultimately come from an unlikely source: The Champ himself.

John Cena convinced Mr. McMahon to reinstate CM Punk

Following CM Punk’s inflammatory outburst the previous week, the WWE Universe eagerly anticipated how WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon would respond on Raw, but few could have expected Punk’s actions to spark an emotionally charged confrontation between The Chairman and WWE Champion John Cena.

The Champ lauded The Second City Savior for speaking his mind, and criticized the strong-willed CEO – who famously went toe-to-toe with Ted Turner and won – for being thin-skinned the previous week following Punk’s rant against the company. However, it’s all about “calculated risks” with Mr. McMahon, who was quick to correct The Champ. He didn’t suspend Punk for his words; he suspended him because he doesn’t think Cena can beat him. As such, The Chairman didn’t want to risk Punk leaving WWE with its grandest prize in his possession.

Questioning what the WWE Championship stands for in light of Mr. McMahon’s refusal to lift Punk’s suspension, Cena handed the title to the WWE CEO and turned his back on the boss. Irate, Mr. McMahon reluctantly agreed to reinstate The Straight Edge Superstar, under a single condition: If CM Punk leaves Chicago with the WWE Title, The Chairman will fire Cena personally in the middle of the ring.
