MONDAY NIGHT RAW RESULTS 7/11/2011

MONDAY NIGHT RAW 7/11/2011

in BOSTON – Apparently, CM Punk’s vitriolic – and yes, classic – diatribe two weeks ago was but a prelude. The Second City Savior poured even more gasoline onto his already fiery rhetoric with just six days before the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

CM Punk returned, confronted WWE Champion John Cena

Two weeks after unleashing one of the most scathing, groundbreaking rants in WWE history, The Second City Savior returned to Raw – a return made possible thanks to an unlikely source, WWE Champion John Cena. Punk’s longtime nemesis and opponent at Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view argued with Mr. McMahon about his decision to suspend Punk for the epic tirade. The WWE Chairman grudgingly relented and agreed to reinstate the holier-than-thou Superstar … under one condition. If Punk prevails on Sunday and leaves with the WWE Title, Cena will be fired.

Punk did not return, however, to thank The Champ for laying his career on the line. Instead, he was there to renegotiate his contract – on his terms. After WWE officials contacted him, The Second City Savior insisted the negotiation happen on live TV and that he will walk if The WWE Chairman himself doesn’t beg him to stay.

Cena emerged to confront Punk, but before tensions got too strained between the two, Raw’s anonymous General Manager chimed in and arranged a 2-on-1 Handicap Match pitting the WWE Champion against WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty.

WWE Champion John Cena def. WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga & Michael McGillicuttyJust six days before defending his title at Money in the Bank, WWE Champion John Cena was forced to overcome the odds. The Champ found himself in the unenviable position of tackling WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga & Michael McGillicutty, a couple of Punk disciples from The New Nexus. Cena proved why he’s so formidable by overcoming the disadvantage and prevailing over the powerful pair.

Contract negotiations unraveled between CM Punk and Mr. McMahon; WWE Champion John Cena attacked Punk
CM Punk is a man with nothing to lose. And that makes him a dangerous man, indeed.

Two weeks after giving Mr. McMahon the verbal equivalent of a kick in the grapefruits, The Second City Savior returned to Raw to renegotiate his contract. This time, though, he clearly had the upper hand. Although The Chairman had agreed to all of Punk’s earlier demands in the wake of a threat by WWE Champion John Cena, the preachy Superstar still wasn’t satisfied. Punk insisted that he also receive a private jet, that WWE ice cream bars return, that he star in his own movie and that he main event at WrestleMania. Although Mr. McMahon appeared grudgingly prepared to sign, Cena brought negotiations screeching to a halt.

The WWE Champion confronted Punk and things quickly devolved. After listening to Punk deride him for becoming everything he hates, Cena clocked his Money in the Bank opponent, who wisely snatched the contract from Mr. McMahon and skirted from the ring. He fled up the entrance ramp and once again unleashed a tirade against Cena, Mr. McMahon and the whole of the WWE Universe before tearing up his unsigned contract.

VIDEO: CM Punk and John Cena showed Respect for one another

CM Punk and John Cena showed Respect for one another

WWE Champion and CM Punk have had a lot of negative things to say about each other in recent weeks leading up to their showdown at Money in the Bank on 7/17, but the two superstars had very nice things to say about one another following a recent match.

After John Cena defeated CM Punk in the main event of the WWE’s recent live event in Brisbane, Australia, Punk grabbed a microphone from ringside and actually put over the WWE champion. Punk says that while The Rock is off filming movies, Cena remains part of the WWE universe and performs in sickness and in health. Punk and Cena shook hands and Punk went to the back.

VIDEO OF THAT BELOW:

Cena then grabbed the mic and put over CM Punk also putting over Punk and showing respect. Cena called Punk the best wrestler in WWE today and said their Money in the Bank match will be the match of the year – even bigger than he and The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania.

John Cena VS CM Punk UPDATED

UPDATED: - WWE posted something similar to this story last week.

On his last night in WWE, a reinstated CM Punk challenges WWE Champion John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank, emanating from his hometown of Chicago. Not only does Punk intend to humble The Champ and the entire WWE Universe with a decisive final victory on July 17, but change WWE forever by leaving with its most coveted prize fastened around his waist – simultaneously putting Cena’s career in jeopardy.

This momentous match nearly didn't happen. In response to Punk’s controversial rant on the June 27 edition of Raw - during which he lambasted WWE management, his fellow Superstars and the WWE Universe - WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon suspended The Second City Savior, effectively ending Punk's WWE career three weeks before what would become his final match. The following week, however, Punk's bold aspirations were shockingly salvaged by the WWE Champion himself.

In an emotionally charged confrontation with the WWE CEO, Cena argued that Punk had every right to say what he did, and had earned the right to compete for the WWE Title on July 17. Following Cena's impassioned words, Mr. McMahon agreed to take a “calculated risk” and reinstate Punk under one condition: If Punk manages to leave Chicago with the championship, Cena will be fired on the spot.

Weeks prior, after defeating his longtime nemesis Rey Mysterio at Capitol Punishment, The Second City Savior performed what he called “the most honest thing the WWE Universe has ever seen” by vehemently demanding a WWE Title Match with The Champ at the second annual Money in the Bank event. Instead, Punk was placed in a Triple Threat Match to determine the No. 1 contender in which he defeated Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio. The New Nexus leader then revealed that his WWE contract will expire on the same night as his WWE Title bout in the Windy City, vowing to end his career in WWE as its champion.

Never truly seeing eye to eye, Cena and Punk have clashed numerous times in the past, but this collision will prove to be their most bombastic encounter yet, with massive implications on the future of WWE. With Cenation behind him, can The Champ overcome the calculating Punk in his hometown? Or will The Second City Savior leave Chicago - and WWE - with the WWE Championship and end Cena's career? To find out, tune in to WWE Money in the Bank, July 17, only on pay-per-view.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW RESULTS 7/4/2011

MONDAY NIGHT RAW
7/4/2011

in LAS VEGAS – While the United States of America let freedom ring in celebration of Independence Day on Monday night, the WWE Universe around the globe was still reeling from CM Punk’s controversial “declaration of independence” one week earlier. The Straight Edge Superstar’s inflammatory words and unprofessional conduct on Raw resulted in a suspension that would essentially end his WWE career three weeks before his contract expiration – and his anticipated WWE Championship clash with reigning titleholder John Cena at WWE Money in the Bank.

However, support for Punk’s reinstatement would ultimately come from an unlikely source: The Champ himself.

John Cena convinced Mr. McMahon to reinstate CM Punk

Following CM Punk’s inflammatory outburst the previous week, the WWE Universe eagerly anticipated how WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon would respond on Raw, but few could have expected Punk’s actions to spark an emotionally charged confrontation between The Chairman and WWE Champion John Cena.

The Champ lauded The Second City Savior for speaking his mind, and criticized the strong-willed CEO – who famously went toe-to-toe with Ted Turner and won – for being thin-skinned the previous week following Punk’s rant against the company. However, it’s all about “calculated risks” with Mr. McMahon, who was quick to correct The Champ. He didn’t suspend Punk for his words; he suspended him because he doesn’t think Cena can beat him. As such, The Chairman didn’t want to risk Punk leaving WWE with its grandest prize in his possession.

Questioning what the WWE Championship stands for in light of Mr. McMahon’s refusal to lift Punk’s suspension, Cena handed the title to the WWE CEO and turned his back on the boss. Irate, Mr. McMahon reluctantly agreed to reinstate The Straight Edge Superstar, under a single condition: If CM Punk leaves Chicago with the WWE Title, The Chairman will fire Cena personally in the middle of the ring.

John Cena Talks About His Upcoming Match With CM Punk to the Chicago Tribune

John Cena Talks About His Upcoming Match With CM Punk to the Chicago Tribune:

WWE superstar John Cena said Friday that he believes his championship match with Chicago-area native CM Punk at the Allstate Arena July 17 is still on even though Punk was suspended earlier this week.

The match, part of the Money in the Bank Pay Per View, appeared to be in jeopardy after Punk, who recently announced he will leave WWE once his contract ends, aired out his behind-the-scenes issues with the company on live TV Monday.

“From what I understand, he’s suspended, but I think the match will happen,” said Cena over the phone from Sidney, Australia, where he and his fellow WWE superstars are currently touring. “(Punk) reached an agreement to not talk badly about WWE. Technically, it’s two weeks before Money in the Bank, so he’s still got two weeks to screw it up for himself.”

WWE’s website announced immediately after Punk's rant that it had suspended him, but Cena said Punk joined the company in Australia as “a last minute addition.”

Besides criticizing WWE chairman Vince McMahonfor surrounding himself with “yes men" and saying the company has underachieved from a business standpoint, Punk accused Cena – the face of WWE – of kissing McMahon’s butt.

Was the rant real or scripted?

Most likely it’s the latter -- at least partially. But the words were so critical and so personal that it’s hard to tell. And that’s what made it one of the most talked about moments in WWE in years. Espn.com columnist Bill Simmons tweeted “CM Punk's Monday Night Raw performance tonight was one for the ages.” ESPN radio and TV host Jim Romepublicly invited Punk to come on his show and finish the rant that was interrupted when his microphone was cut out.

(It should be noted that I requested an interview with Punk, a Bucktown resident, last week for my Monday in the Bank preview. WWE decided on Wednesday it would be best if I spoke with another superstar, which turned out to be Cena.)

“WWE has a lot of events, but rarely do you see something this controversial and hostile,” Cena said. “I think people will talk about Money in the Bank for years to come. It will be a great moment for Chicago. A guy like CM Punk on live TV, you don’t know what he’ll do. I’m prepared for anything.

“It’s weird. Usually when a guy retires, we give them one last hoorah. But after what happened Monday, I don’t know. You have to wait and see. There are two more weeks. I’m interested and excited about all this, even if some of it came at my expense.”

-Look for the full interview with John Cena in the Chicago Tribune July 15.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW RESULTS 6/272011

MONDAY NIGHT RAW
6/27/11
in LAS VEGAS – The WWE Universe went for a spin in the city of sin for Raw Roulette, the one night of the year when matches, competitors and stipulations are determined by the whirling of the wheel.
R-Truth def. WWE Champion John Cena in a Raw Roulette Non-title Tables Match
Millions of visitors “hit the tables” each year when they journey to Las Vegas, but typically not like this. In the final Raw Roulette bout of the evening, R-Truth faced WWE Champion John Cena in an emotionally charged Tables Match.

All too eager to silence “Little Jimmys” around the globe by sending their hero crashing through the hardwood, Truth brought the fight to The Champ early on, but it was ultimately CM Punk who would decide the match’s outcome when he saved Truth from an Attitude Adjustment through the pine.
Then, while Cena was distracted by The Second City Savior, Truth drove The Champ through a table propped up in the corner of the ring.
