Today isn’t just National Cream-Filled Doughnut Day (what, you didn’t know?); it’s also officially 200 days until WrestleMania XXVIII on April 1, 2012.

John Cena vs. The Rock with special guest referee CM Punk
The truly epic clash between the sports-entertainment’s greatest titans, The Cenation Commander-in-Chief and The People’s Champion, is exciting enough for the WWE Universe to mobilize to Miami on April 1. This includes CM Punk, whose used his so-called handheld “pipe bomb” to criticize the WrestleMania XXVIII main event. The Straight Edge Superstar may not be able to squeeze himself into the action, but he’d make a most impartial guest referee in that he presumably loathes both John Cena and The Rock equally. As long as the WWE Universe gets to see Punk compete in his own confrontation at WrestleMania earlier in the night, The Straight Edge Superstar could be the genuine X-factor in this match for the ages.

- Stefan Gorges, who keeps a running list of WWE Superstar win-loss records, has provided some interesting statistics regarding John Cena
WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio is fond of referring to himself as “the greatest of the great,” but as everyone knows, actions speak louder than words. So when The Mexican Aristocrat began gushing about himself, yet again, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart decided to mercifully intervene. On behalf of his fellow Canadians, “Hit Man” informed Del Rio that a true champion fights his own battles and doesn’t take advantage of an injured man. When Del Rio threatened Hart, his Night of Champions opponent, John Cena, thwarted his bravado. The moneyed Mexican then decided to arranged a match pitting Cena against … Ricardo Rodriguez! The Cenation Commander-in-Chief then insisted Del Rio compete against Hart.
Before the situation devolved into chaos, Mr. John Laurinaitis intervened. The Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, on behalf of Triple H, arranged a tag team match pitting WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez against John Cena & Bret Hart.
Not only that, later in the night, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton will also take on Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes and Triple H will face off one last volatile time with CM Punk before their No Disqualification Match at Night of Champion.

The Mexican Aristocrat tucked tail and ran. Six days before facing Cena at Night of Champions, Del Rio tagged in Ricardo, who had entered the ring for his first-ever match, and scampered up the entrance ramp.
Meanwhile, his hapless lackey suffered both an Attitude Adjustment and a painful Sharpshooter on his way to a team loss.
"Not only was John Cena the last Superstar standing in the huge Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team Match, but he fended off a sneak attack from WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio after the bout."

in COLUMBUS, Ohio – As the clock continues to tick down to Night of Champions in less than two weeks, the circumstances surrounding each title match grow ever more contentious and controversial.
John Cena called out WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio
WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio can’t avoid John Cena forever. The Mexican Aristocrat was a no-show on both the WWE Raw SuperShow and SuperSmackDown last week, and this week he addressed Cena from a safe distance outside the ring. He taunted his Night of Champions opponent before a host of Superstars – who Del Rio had swayed earlier in the evening – converged on The Cenation Commander-in-Chief.
Before Wade Barrett, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler and Christian could debilitate Cena, Sheamus, John Morrison and Alex Riley charged the ring to even the score. When they did, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long intervened and arranged an Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team Match.

After WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio whipped them into a frenzy against John Cena in the locker room area, Christian, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger & Wade Barrett were frothing at the mouth. The quartet squared off against Cena, Sheamus, John Morrison & Alex Riley in an Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team Match.
The first two Superstars eliminated from the bout were The Prince of Parkour and A-Ry, followed by Barrett. After that, Sheamus and Christian battled to a double count-out, leaving Cena to battle Ziggler & Swagger.
The two rivals were forced to work together, but their bickering and Cena’s domination allowed him to eliminate both.
Having won for his squad, Cena was then ambushed by WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, but The Cenation Commander-in-Chief beat back the attack and sent Del Rio scurrying.

"Going into his WWE Championship Match with Alberto Del Rio at Night of Champions, John Cena picked up impressive victories on both Raw and SmackDown. Is a 10th WWE Title reign in his near future?"
But Ricardo Rodriguez informed Cena he’d have to wait until Night of Champions for the honor of being in the ring with him. Putting a punctuation mark on Rodriguez’s statements, Cena dropped him to the canvas.
Next, Wade Barrett emerged to talk smack about his upcoming match with Cena. But, the Cenation leader got in the last word: “Get this through your head … you have made my life miserable and I owe you some payback."

Just as he and Henry began to size up Cena as a punching bag, Sheamus flew into the ring to thwart his SmackDown adversaries, who reluctantly fled the squared circle.
With The World’s Strongest (and possibly scariest) Man inducting more Superstars in his “Hall of Pain,” punishment was sure to be doled out. Although Henry did not disappoint, his overwhelming strength would not be enough.
Cena managed to lead his team across the finish line by pinning former World Heavyweight Champion Christian.

"He might not have felt like a winner as Raw went off the air, but John Cena's pinfall victory over CM Punk puts The Cenation Commander-in-Chief next in line to challenge Alberto Del Rio for the WWE Championship. But after Del Rio's post-match assault, is Cena at 100 percent?"

Both staking claim for the No. 1 contendership to Del Rio’s title following the controversial conclusion of their SummerSlam confrontation, Cena and Punk battled on Raw for the right to vie for the WWE Title at Night of Champions. The Cenation leader defeated The Straight Edge Superstar largely due to a distraction by the massive Kevin Nash – a figure that has cast a dark shadow over the WWE Championship landscape since his debut at The Biggest Event of the Summer.
To ensure the crowning of an Undisputed WWE
As Punk brushed aside his misgivings about the circumstances of his momentous Undisputed WWE Championship victory to celebrate with his legions of fans at Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center, a hulking figure made his way through the crowd and charged the ring. With his 7-foot frame and raven-black hair and beard, the behemoth was instantly recognizable as Nash, unseen in WWE since his surprise appearance in the 2011 Royal Rumble Match. The veteran grappler and former WWE Champion viciously battered Punk before hoisting The Straight Edge Superstar high into the air and sending him crashing to the canvas with a ring-shaking Jackknife Powerbomb.
Watching this carnage unfold from the locker room area, Del Rio knew that it was time to strike. Becoming the ninth Superstar to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on a vulnerable champion to attain a World Title, The Mexican Aristocrat further punished Punk with his signature enziguri to win his first WWE Championship.
The following night on Raw, Triple H apologized for his questionable officiating while Nash led many to believe that the controversial conclusion of SummerSlam – from the three-count to Del Rio’s cash-in – was masterminded by The Cerebral Assassin himself. As the two longtime Kliq cohorts’ opposing stories whipped the WWE Universe into a speculative frenzy, a fired-up Cena kept Del Rio in his sights and issued a stern warning: “You are not a champion: You’re a target.”
Now that the 11-time World Champion is the new No. 1 contender, is Alberto Del Rio’s destiny about to be derailed? Additionally, will Triple H or “Big Sexy” once again play a role in shaping the future of the WWE Championship? To find out, tune in to Night of Champions, Sept. 18, only on pay-per-view.
