Why The Rock and John Cena make a Great Team

WHY ROCK AND CENA MAKE A GREAT TEAM!

John Cena and The Rock join forces in less than two weeks at Survivor Series. As a “never before, never again” tag team, these legendary Superstars will temporarily set aside their differences and unite to take on The “Awesome Truth.” There will only be one shot at this, so not only must this surprise pairing work – it will.

The Great One and the Cenation leader are simply too proud, too persevering and too talented to take “no” for an answer. Don’t be misled by past (or future) problems; these two warriors have more in common than at first meets the eye. These deep-seeded similarities are what will help them work together and succeed on Nov. 20.

To be the absolute “alpha-dog,” most popular and charismatic Superstar of an era in sports-entertainment is an incredible triumph. That has been achieved only by a very elite group of Superstars. Both The Rock and John Cena can proudly claim places on that short list. The thought of two such luminous presences working together just sounds like a recipe for success.

Their histories in WWE have more than a few parallels. Both are celebrated multi-time champions, each with dozens of wins in singles and tag team competition. Both are Royal Rumble winners, in 2000 for The Rock and 2008 for Cena. Ironically, both of those events took place at Madison Square Garden, which is hosting this year’s Survivor Series.

Another crisscrossing of their careers also took place at MSG: WrestleMania XX, in 2004. In fact, it could be argued that at this blockbuster event, when The Great One had what became his final official match for seven years and Cena won The United States Championship, it wasn’t just an overlapping of careers, but a passing of the torch.

In the end, the most vital commonality between John Cena and The Rock is that nothing but victory is enough for either of them. They are each willing to win at all costs – and they both want to be the one who gets the decisive pinfall or submission at Survivor Series. They have the shared aim of defeating The “Awesome Truth,” but they each want to be “the Man.” How that issue is resolved remains to be seen, but the fact that The Brahma Bull and the Cenation leader each have inspired drive is undeniable.

That singular motivation to win binds these two Superstars together and will propel them to triumph on Nov. 20. As unlikely a duo as The Rock and John Cena may seem at first, they will prove to be a great one.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW 11/7/2011
in LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND

John Cena revealed his partner for tonight’s match against The “Awesome Truth"
Confronted by The Miz & R-Truth in front of a passionate crowd in Liverpool’s Echo Arena, John Cena was unfazed by the arrogant duo’s insults.
Instead, the Cenation leader simply told his Survivor Series opponents to prepare for the beating they were going to receive in the night’s main event at the hands of Cena and his tag partner — Zack Ryder.

The Miz & R-Truth def. John Cena & Zack Ryder
Two weeks before he teams with The Rock to face The “Awesome Truth” at Survivor Series, John Cena joined forces with The Long Island Iced-Z to face The Miz & R-Truth and quickly found out he’ll have some serious competition come Nov. 20.

Despite working well as a duo, the Cenation leader and the internet sensation found themselves on the losing end of things when Truth held down Cena’s legs, allowing The “Awesome One” to score the win. Expect the same kind of dirty tricks to go down in Madison Square Garden

John Cena’s Greatest Garden Conquests

John Cena returns to Madison Square Garden on Nov. 20 for Survivor Series, where he will team up with The Rock to take on The “Awesome Truth.” His epic team-up with The Great One may have a “never before, never again” feeling about it, but Cena has spent plenty of time at MSG in the past. The raucous New York City crowd is known to devour sports-entertainment, and historically has brought out the best in The Cenation Commander-in-Chief. In fact, some of his brightest moments have taken place at the Garden. WWE.com looks back at some of those past successes

Mar. 14, 2004
At WrestleMania XX, John Cena made his WrestleMania debut to challenge Big Show for theWWE United States Championship. After surviving an early onslaught from The World’s Largest Athlete, Cena was able to turn the tide and momentum of the match. Employing hidden brass knuckles and finishing with a devastating Attitude Adjustment, he took the giant's championship in front of an astounded capacity Madison Square Garden crowd. Cena’s superlative performance made it very clear that he had much more to show WWE fans at the Mecca of entertainment.

Sep. 11, 2006
On the fifth anniversary of 9/11, John Cena returned to the Garden for Raw. It was an emotional night for all, beginning with a moment of silence for those who lost their lives five years before. Chants of “USA” broke out all night, as the passionate and patriotic crowd made its presence known. In a punishing and lengthy Six-Man Tag Team Match, Cena led his team of Superstars to victory against the likes of Rated-RKO. Continuing his successful run in New York City, he thrilled the thousands of WWE fans in attendance and millions watching all over the world on this important and affecting night.

Jan. 27, 2008
The Royal Rumble Match – the second at the Garden in the pay-per-view’s history - was a stirring and remarkable affair for the 20,000 fans in attendance. After incredible action and shockers during the entrance (and subsequent exit) of 29 competitors, Cena walked out as the 30th and final entrant, making a miraculous recovery and return from a serious pectoral injury. The capacity crowd exploded and the action in the ring stopped as all watched the Cenation leader make his triumphant homecoming to the squared circle. Ring rust was not an issue, as he nailed the 29th entrant, Triple H, with an Attitude Adjustment and tossed him over the top rope eight and a half minutes later. The crowd went crazy as this victory booked Cena a World Championship Match at WrestleMania XXIV.

Nov. 16. 2009
Madison Square Garden has had its share of Superstar icons competing throughout its storied history, but perhaps never more so than a Triple Threat Tag Team Match on Raw, when WWE Champion Cena joined forces with World Heavyweight Champion The Undertaker to take on DX and “Jerishow” (Chris Jericho & Big Show). The World Champions would prevail in this colossal clash when Cena caught his old foe Triple H with an Attitude Adjustment. After the match, The Phenom, perhaps to show how little he felt he needed his partner’s help, performed a Tombstone on the vulnerable and exhausted Cena. It was a proud night for Cena, even if he did receive a rude reminder of just how much of a loner The Undertaker is.

Survivor Series: John Cena & The Rock VS. The Miz & R-Truth

John Cena & The Rock vs. The Miz & R-Truth

Survivor Series!

Returning to the event where he made his WWE debut 15 years ago, The Great One will team with his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent John Cena to take on the devious pairing of The Miz & R-Truth in the same arena where The Brahma Bull had both his first and last match — Madison Square Garden.

Never before have the Cenation leader and The People’s Champion joined forces. Never again will it happen.

It’s an unexpected alliance that came about on the Oct. 24 edition of WWE’s Raw SuperShow when Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis informed Cena that he would challenge The “Awesome Truth” at Survivor Series with a partner of his choosing. Realizing the Superstar in his corner would have to be able to “bring it” in order to take down the vicious duo, Cena chose a competitor he may not like, but he damn sure respects — The Rock.

One week later, The People’s Champion accepted his rival’s offer to unite against a common enemy, creating what is surely the most charismatic tag team in WWE history. Together, the opponents will attempt to work as one to stop a team that has attempted to tear WWE apart. But will the shaky union be able to withstand one of the most menacing forces in all of WWE?

It’s one of the many questions on the minds of WWE fans as The Brahma Bull prepares to step in the squared circle for the first time since WrestleMania XX in 2004. Will The Great One still be able to lay the smack down like he did when Limp Bizkit was popular? Can The People’s Champion and the Cenation leader coexist? Can The “Awesome Truth” be stopped?

As wicked as they may be, The Miz & R-Truth have been able to operate as a cohesive unit in order to take down heavy hitters like CM Punk, Triple H and Cena himself. With victories over teams like WWE Tag Team Champions Air Boom, The “Awesome Truth” have proven that they’re a dominant duo. John Cena & The Rock have proven nothing as a team.

It’s a familiar position for the former WWE Champions — their abilities in doubt, their partnership in question. They may be two of the biggest Superstars in WWE history, but they will be the underdogs going into Survivor Series on Nov. 20.

And we’re guessing John Cena & The Rock wouldn’t have it any other way.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW RESULTS
10/31/2011

in ATLANTA — On any other program, the sudden appearance of a talking frog and a pig who knows karate would seem bizarre. On WWE Raw SuperShow, it was just another part of a night that included a trick from R-Truth, a treat for CM Punk and a very Happy Halloween for John Cena.

The Rock accepted John Cena’s offer

Finally, The Rock has come back to Survivor Series! Seven days after John Cena invited The Great One to team with him against The Miz & R-Truth at the same event where Rock made his WWE debut, The People’s Champion appeared via satellite to accept the Cenation leader's offer. Admitting that an outpouring of support from the WWE Universe helped sway his decision, The Brahma Bull revealed that he's ready to whoop The "Awesome Truth" on Nov. 20. And with that, the most charismatic tag team in WWE history is born.

If that wasn't enough, it was announced that The Great One will return to WWE Raw SuperShow on Nov. 14 for a live three-hour special when Raw gets Rocked!

John Cena def. The Miz

Fired up after finding out that The Rock will team with him against The “Awesome Truth” at Survivor Series, John Cena gave The Awesome One a little taste of what to expect on Nov. 20. Smashing The Miz in the same city where they clashed at WrestleMania XXVII, the Cenation leader was almost stopped by a fan dressed as Ghostface from the Scream movies.

As it turned out the attacker was actually R-Truth who got a taste of Cena’s rage before the West Newbury, Mass., native put Miz away with the STF. T

he powerful Superstar then nailed Truth with an Attitude Adjustment to make it one unhappy Halloween for The "Awesome Truth."

WrestleMania 28: John Cena VS The Rock; Get Your Tickets November 5th!

John Cena vs. The Rock

In the most anticipated WrestleMania clash in history, John Cena will collide with The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII, emanating from The Great One’s hometown of Miami.

Few could have anticipated that two of sports-entertainment’s most celebrated icons would ever meet in the squared circle, let alone on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Yet, the WWE Universe will bear witness to this blockbuster collision on Apr. 1, 2012 – one year after The Cenation Commander-in-Chief and “The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment” agreed to battle in a dream match for the ages.

Following a seven-year absence, The Rock returned to WWE in characteristically grand fashion in early 2010 to host WrestleMania XXVII. Although The People’s Champion was overjoyed to be reunited with his millions – and millions – of fans at long last, he was quick to take aim at Cena, sparking a very public war of words with his fellow multi-time World Champion.

The verbal jousts escalated to physical confrontation in the weeks that followed, and it became abundantly clear that the pair would cross paths at The Showcase of the Immortals in one way or another. Ultimately, in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 71,000 WWE Universe members in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, The Rock put an exclamation point on his rivalry with Cena by hitting him with a Rock Bottom, a maneuver that afforded The Miz the opportunity to retain his coveted WWE Championship.

The following night on Raw, these two icons faced off once again, but this time the physicality was limited to a handshake. For the first time in history, a WrestleMania main event was made one year prior to the event itself.

-Don't miss your chance to see the most anticipated match in history when The Rock faces off against John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII atSun Life Stadium in Miami on April 1, 2012.

John Cena Rises Above Hate!

John Cena Rises Above Hate

From humble beginnings growing up in West Newbury, Mass., to his nearly 10 years as a WWE Superstar, John Cena has absorbed more punishment than he’d probably care to recall. Whether he’s squaring off with The Miz & R-Truth in a Handicap Match on Raw SuperShow or competing in front of a hostile crowd, the stalwart Superstar doesn’t just shrug off animosity, he rises above it.

At Vengeance, on the same night his mission to capture Alberto Del Rio’s WWE Championship ended at the hands of the diabolical tandem known as The “Awesome Truth,” Cena’s new attire and the self-empowering message emblazoned in red, white and blue on the front – “Rise Above Hate” – provided the members of Cenation with some much-needed inspiration as their hero faced seemingly insurmountable odds.

John Cena“I wanted to make a positive statement,” Cena told WWE.com in describing his latest shirt, which features the logo of the anti-bullying “be a STAR”campaign printed on the sleeve. “I have a varied group of loyal fans out there that will literally back me through thick and thin. I’m known for crazy graphics and colors on my shirts, and I’ve pretty much run through the entire rainbow. I didn’t want the message to be drowned out with a graphic or anything like that, so we went real simple [with a black shirt] and put the words ‘Rise Above Hate’ with ‘Hustle, Loyalty, Respect’ on the back.”

Cena continued, “It really dawned on me when the phrase ‘Never Give Up’ became popular. I’ve never really said it on TV – maybe once – but everyone kind of associated it with me because it was on my T-shirts. I get so many messages on Twitter and questions like, ‘Hey, I’m being bullied at school. What do I do?’ Those are very personal situations, and each requires a unique approach to handle, but ‘Rise Above Hate’ is a way to tell someone to be the bigger person. Because if anyone gets bullied around here [in WWE], it’s me.”

At Vengeance, Cena also debuted new ring gear, replacing his iconic “jorts” with shorts featuring a variety of camouflage designs.

“The jean shorts, for the moment, have been retired,” Cena said assertively. “These are military-issued camo, and I think they will stand out. I have every U.S. Military service branch represented: Army, Marine Corps., Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard. I’ll be changing it up from time to time.”

However, Cena was quick to clarify that he hasn’t ditched the denim completely.

“They’re always in the closet,” Cena said. “Maybe when they come back in style 30 years from now I’ll bust them out for the WWE Hall of Fame or something.”

Why would The Rock team with John Cena?

Why would The Rock team with John Cena?

On Monday’s WWE Raw SuperShow, John Cena announced that he wanted The Rock to be his partner against The Miz & R-Truth at Survivor Series — a choice that has many WWE fans scratching their heads. After all, isn’t The Great One the man who cost Cena his WWE Title Match against The Miz at WrestleMania XXVII? Didn’t he once call the Cenation leader a “big fat bowl of Fruity Pebbles?” Isn’t he the Superstar who will be standing across the ring from Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII in the most anticipated bout in WWE history?

Why in the world would Cena want this man in his corner?

More importantly, why would The Rock want to help out a guy who he once compared to Barney the Friendly Dinosaur?

It may be an unlikely pairing, but The Brahma Bull is no stranger to unlikely pairings. At the 2001 Survivor Series, The Great One joined forces with rivals like Chris Jericho and The Big Show in order to combat the invading forces of the WCW/ECW Alliance. Perhaps The Rock will notice the similarities between that vicious faction and the destructive team of The Miz & R-Truth. Both squads were out to take down WWE and that’s something The People's Champion simply won’t allow.

Why should The Rock team with John Cena at Survivor Series?Or maybe The Great One will recognize the opportunity to shake off some ring rust. Sure, The Rock may be The Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment, but he hasn’t had a legitimate match in more than seven years. A Superstar who has been in the ring every night would barely be able to hang with the Cenation leader. What chance does a guy who hasn’t locked up since George Bush was in office have?

And if The Brahma Bull wants to scout his WrestleMania XXVIII opponent, there’s no better way to do it than to stand in the ring with the man. Sure, the iconic Superstars trade verbal jabs in the squared circle and have even came to blows on more than one occasion, but there’s nothing that compares with going bell to bell with another competitor. Does The Rock want to know Cena's strengths? His weaknesses? If he fights next to him in the most famous arena in the world, he'll learn everything he needs to know about The Cenation Commander-in-Chief.

So will The Great One agree to team with his rival? Or is he too comfortable in his custom trailer on the set of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation?” WWE.com can’t say for sure, but we’ve never seen The Rock back down from a challenge before.

John Cena def. The Miz & R-Truth by Disqualification; Cena chose his partner for Survivor Series

After his partner, Zack Ryder, was taken out by The “Awesome Truth,” John Cena was forced to face the dangerous pair alone — a challenge he was more than ready to embrace. Singlehandedly battering the two men who cost him the WWE Title at Vengeance, the powerful Superstar was close to winning this bout on his own before The Awesome One and his deranged partner double teamed Cena, resulting in a disqualification.

The executive then made a huge announcement — John Cena will take on The Miz & R-Truth at Survivor Series with a partner of his choosing. Who did the former WWE Champion pick? His WrestleMania XXVIII opponent, The Rock. But will The Great One accept this huge offer?

WWE Pay-Per-View Vengeance 2011 Results

WWE Pay-Per-View Vengeance 10/23/2011 Results

WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio def. John Cena (Last Man Standing Match)

SAN ANTONIO — John Cena’s unmatched willpower and sheer guts have seen to it that he’s never lost a Last Man Standing Match — until tonight. Brutally assaulted by The Miz and R-Truth during his taxing battle with WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio, the Superstar had his potential 11th World Championship reign stolen from him by the devious duo as they smashed the Cenation leader, allowing The Mexican Aristocrat to take advantage of his wounded challenger and retain his title. (

It was a shocking ending to a bout that was controversial before the bell even rang. Forced to rumble in a dilapidated ring that World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry and Big Show destroyed in the prior contest, Cena and Del Rio didn’t waste any time trading chinlocks and armdrags in the squared circle. Instead, the rivals went at it like barroom brawlers, brutalizing each other with the ring posts, steel steps and everything else that wasn’t nailed down in San Antonio’s AT&T Center.

For Del Rio, the bout quickly became a proving ground. Competing in his first Last Man Standing Match, the WWE Champion demonstrated his resolve by fighting back after being driven through a table by his opponent. With his determined performance, Del Rio showed the WWE Universe that his expensive cars and perfect hair belie the tough competitor hiding under the cashmere scarf.

For Cena, it was an opportunity to do what he does best. Choosing the stipulation that fits his “never say die” attitude, Cena knew he could not be stopped in a Last Man Standing Match. After all, the West Newbury, Mass. native defeated rivals like Edge and Batista in this very bout.

Alberto Del Rio should have been the latest Superstar to fall to Cena in a Last Man Standing Match. Despite constant interference from his personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, The Mexican Aristocrat was on dream street after receiving a massive Attitude Adjustment through the Spanish announce table. The official nearly counted to 10 before The “Awesome Truth” stole his attention.

Destroying Cena in the ring, The Miz & R-Truth gave Del Rio a chance to get back to his feet and take advantage of his battered challenger. Although he was able to stand up, Cena was ultimately knocked out cold when the smug champion blasted him in the head with the WWE Title. There was no getting up from a shot like that.

This is the second time The “Awesome Truth” has assaulted Cena following their attack on the former WWE Champion at WWE Hell in a Cell. Both The Miz and R-Truth may soon regret picking this fight.
