John Cena addressed the WWE Universe

It's safe to say that the WWE Universe was surprised to say the least when John Cena stepped aside to allow Ryback to sign the No. 1 contender's contract last week on Raw. And this week, in the shadow of MetLife Stadium, the Cenation leader stepped into the ring not to expound upon his decision, but to give the WWE Universe a preview, in his own words, of what they can expect at Hell in a Cell.

And what, exactly, did the historic main event of Hell in a Cell hold in store? To put it simply: "change."

"Change is 6-foot 3," Cena said. "Change is 291 pounds, and when 'change' sets foot into this ring, all he can hear over and over again is 'FEED ME MORE!' "

Before Cena could continue, though, the riff of "Cult of Personality" rumbled through the loudspeakers and the WWE Champion strutted out, 337 days atop the mountain under his belt and looking thoroughly bemused at what he called Cena's "new role" of being "Ryback's personal cheerleader."

And regarding change? "I've been WWE Champion for 337 days and counting, which means you haven't been champion for a lot longer than that," Punk said. "And that is change you can count on."

"Everybody knows when CM Punk makes a promise, he keeps it, and I promise I will walk out of Hell in a Cell still the WWE Champion."

Cena, however, had heard enough. Riled up by Punk's insults, Cena turned the subject of conversation to another recent hot topic: his injured elbow. He would not be interfering in Punk's scheduled title match at Hell in a Cell, but as for tonight, "Regarding yours truly, I am 100 percent medically cleared," the Cenation leader said, flexing his elbow for emphasis and inviting Punk into the ring for an impromptu rumble down the Turnpike.

And for a minute, it looked like Punk would acquiesce to Cena's request. But eventually, the warning shrieks of Paul Heyman won out and the champion strode back to the locker room, a smile on his face and title held high.

AJ Lee revealed the Superstar she was allegedly fraternizing with to be John Cena

John Cena wasted no time in finding former Raw GM AJ Lee in the locker room area, offering his support following her unceremonious resignation and asking her why she didn't fight the accusations leveled against her by Vickie Guerrero. As it turns out, the answer was the last thing Cena (or anybody else in the WWE Universe) would expect: The Superstar in question was none other than Cena himself. The allegations arose after the two shared a "business dinner," and AJ decided not to fight the accusations to avoid dragging Cena's name through the mud.

A gobsmacked Cena assured AJ he'd do what he could to help, but a conversation with Mr. McMahon bore no fruit: "If it wasn't this, it'd be something else," The Chairman said. As for Vickie? Mr. McMahon remained undecided, and it appeared that what would be would be.

In a last attempt to right the situation, Cena went to Vickie and tried to undo the damage, but he was met with similar resistance. "Perception is reality: You asked AJ on a date on Raw, and ended up taking her to dinner." Therefore, according to The Queen Diva, the reality of the situation was this: Cena cost AJ her job.

WWE: John Cena receives first-ever 300th Wish Award

WWE: John Cena receives first-ever 300th Wish Award

GLENDALE, Ariz. — John Cena became the first recipient of the 300th Wish Award Thursday night at the Evening of Excellence held by Make-A-Wish!

With more than 300 wishes and counting, the WWE Superstar was honored for granting more wishes than anyone else in Make-A-Wish history. He was presented the award by wish mom, Judith, whose late son, Justin, was the second Wish child Cena ever met.

Cena granted his record-breaking 300th wish to Jonathan Littman, 7, in June, an honor that was also celebrated on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”  He has been personally granting wishes for more than eight years.

The awards celebration honored wish kids and celebrity wish granters who have achieved special milestones with the organization. Aside from Cena’s 300th Wish Award, other honors given out were the Infinite Wish Award, the Power of One Award and the Chris Greicius Award, which Cena won in 2009.

Honorees included celebrities who have granted 200 wishes, such as singer Katy Perry and singer/actress Selena Gomez — who delivered taped messages at the event - and Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks, who was in attendance.

WWE Monday Night RAW Results: 10/15/2012

WWE Monday Night RAW Results: 10/15/2012 in Nashville, Tenn.

Mr. McMahon named CM Punk's challenger at Hell in a Cell

Decision time, take two: With the fate of WWE Champion CM Punk left to the discretion of Mr. McMahon, which route did The Chairman choose for his champion in the place where rivalries are settled once and for all?

Well, the answer, as turned out, was not what anyone could have expected. But we're getting to that.

The contract signing for Hell in a Cell started off somewhat typically, with champion and challenger(s) staring daggers at each other over while The Chairman began to address the assembled Superstars. Punk cut The Boss off, though, before he could even begin, putting pen to the paper and declaring that what would be would be. "I will do to [Cena or Ryback] what I did to you. I will break them," Punk vowed with vigor. This brought out the fire in Cena, who demeaned Punk yet again before making a decision that left all parties speechless: Cena demurred.

Because, as Cena himself said, while Ryback may or may not care about the WWE Title, what Big Hungry does care about is "kicking ass." And more than anything, Cena's message to Punk was: "You need to get your ass kicked." It was then that Cena painted a picture of Punk's future, and it was a highly unpleasant one filled with unrest and terror as the WWE Champion spent his waking days and sleepless nights haunted by three simple words: "Feed Me More."

With the ramifications of the night becoming clear, Punk looked on in horror while Cena led the WWE Universe in Ryback's chant and Big Hungry put his name to the legalese, solidifying the match and his new status as the No. 1 contender to the WWE Championship. Punk's attempt to intimidate the big man proved fruitless at best, with Ryback unceremoniously pounded Punk's head against the table and Shell Shocked him for good measure. Cena's prediction showed early signs of coming true: As Raw faded to black and the main event of Hell in a Cell was set, the WWE Champion found himself prone on the mat and surrounded on all sides by those three magic words.

WWE: John Cena helps lead New York Jets to victory as Honorary Team Captain

WWE: John Cena helps lead New York Jets to victory as Honorary Team Captain

WWE Superstar John Cena hit the field today at MetLife Stadium — home of WrestleMania 29 — where he helped lead the New York Jets to a 39-5 victory over the Indianapolis Colts as Honorary Team Captain.

The Cenation leader stood alongside New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow as well as the rest of Gang Green as the Jets brought their season record to 3-3.

Cena is still donning the Kinesio Tape to help him recover from his elbow surgery, but the Cenation leader was ready for action on game day at MetLife Stadium — and is no doubt looking forward to returning there on April 7, 2013 for The Showcase of the Immortals.

Tale of the Tape: WWE.com explains the black tape covering John Cena's arm on RAW

Tale of the Tape: WWE.com explains the black tape covering John Cena's arm on RAW

When John Cena made his return to Raw this past Monday in Sacramento, Calif., the 10-time WWE Champion had removed the sling that held his injured arm during his previous appearance two weeks earlier and, in its place, sported an intricate web of athletic tape. The crisscross, spiderweb-looking tape covering the Cenation leader’s arm left a big impression visually on the WWE Universe, but nary a word was spoken as to what, exactly, it was.

The answer? SpiderTech, a type of athletic adhesive known as Kinesio Tape.

Developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase, Kinesio Tape is a groundbreaking recovery method to help athletes recuperate from major injuries, and has been “breaking new ground” in the field of sports medicine for the last 25 years, according to its official website. Kinesio Tape is prevalent among noteworthy athletes besides Cena including David Beckham, Italian striker Mario Balotelli and several Olympians in the 2012 Summer Games like Trey Hardee, a U.S. silver medalist in the decathlon, and various volleyball players.

The application (and purpose) of the tape is fairly complicated, but Chris Arrigo, the owner of Advanced Rehabilitation in South Tampa, Fla., and Cena’s physical therapist (he helped Cena recuperate from his pectoral tear in 2007), explained the function of the tape to WWE.com.

“It basically does 2 or 3 main things,” he said. “It helps reduce pain … eliminate swelling under the skin and helps support the muscles and joints for improved, pain-free movement. The tape lifts the skin to promote the flow of lymphatic fluid, which helps reduce associated swelling.”

Arrigo is optimistic in terms of the process thus far. “John’s rehab is going well,” Arrigo said. “He is improving slowly but steadily and progressing as expected following the surgery that he had.”

At this point, Cena is only wearing the tape in between his rehab sessions to keep the swelling and pain at bay, and he is nearing full capacity for both extension and flexing of his elbow. In other words, he's a long way from the sling already.

So, in layman’s terms, the Kinesio Tape essentially supports the Cenation leader’s arm while he recuperates from the surgery he underwent Sept. 18 to remove bone chips in his elbow. Those black webs are the outlines of the muscles in his arm (needless to add, there were lots of webs). So fear not, Cenation: It’s not a tattoo. It’s not permanent. Given the quick recovery time promoted by the tape itself, it’s highly likely that it won’t be there for long anyway.

Speaking of which: As for the question on the WWE Universe’s mind, will the Cenation leader be ready by the time a potential WWE Title Match at Hell in a Cell rolls around?

“That’s certainly the target on everybody’s radar involved in the process,” Arrigo told WWE.com. “John works as hard as anybody I’ve ever been around and is doing more than everything he can on his part. The jury’s still out on whether or not his elbow will be ready health-wise, but that’s the marker everybody is shooting for. Certainly if he continues to improve steadily, day over day, then I would expect that to be a reality.”

WWE: Who should WWE Champion CM Punk choose to face at Hell in a Cell: John Cena or Ryback?

WWE: Who should WWE Champion CM Punk choose to face at Hell in a Cell: John Cena or Ryback?

Behind one cage door is John Cena — a 10-time WWE Champion, a veteran of this unforgiving match who will do whatever it takes to reclaim the coveted title he hasn’t held in more than a year.

Behind the other cage door is Ryback — a snarling, ferocious beast who has devoured every Superstar in his path and just keeps demanding to be fed more and more.

Which Hell in a Cell would you choose to step inside?

That is the unenviable decision that CM Punk now faces after Mr. McMahon issued an ultimatum to the WWE Champion at the close of Monday night's Raw. For Punk, it comes down to picking between the devil he knows or the devil he doesn't have the slightest clue about. On the surface alone, it seems like the choice should be Cena, especially considering his recovery from elbow surgery. But if you look closer, you'll realize that it's not all that simple for The Straight Edge Superstar.

WWE.com is here to examine the pros and cons of both options Punk has to choose from as Hell in a Cell looms just weeks away. Which opponent he selects might make all the difference between extending his impressive WWE Title reign and losing the grip on his championship gold completely.

Why Punk should choose to face John Cena

Even if you believe that Cena will be fully recovered from elbow surgery in time for Hell in a Cell — and there's a good chance he won't be — history indicates that this match could work in the WWE Champion's favor. Punk and Cena have gone head-to-head more than 10 times dating back to 2009, but it's Punk who has come out on the winning end of two of their most important clashes for the WWE Title.

In 2011, The Straight Edge Superstar defeated Cena at Money in the Bank and took him down again one month later at SummerSlam. Punk even knows how Cena typically operates inside the confines of Hell in a Cell, having battled him and Alberto Del Rio in a Triple Threat Match at Hell in a Cell 2011. With a devious mastermind like Paul Heyman giving Punk advice from outside the Cell, conquering Cena might even be easier than those past showdowns.

It's also apparent what Cena wants: the WWE Championship. Ryback, on the other hand, might not care about the title more than he cares about the destruction of his opponents. Is Punk ready to be trapped inside a steel structure with an unpredictable wrecking machine? Yeah, facing Cena definitely feels like the much safer alternative.

Why Punk should choose to face Ryback

For several weeks, Punk has been clamoring for respect ad nauseam. He's tried to demand it with his words and even beat it out of WWE Legends like Bret "Hit Man" Hart and Mick Foley. But if Punk really wants to prove himself worthy of everyone's respect, how about accomplishing something no other Superstar has been remotely able to do? Yes, we're talking about being the first to defeat Ryback.

Getting inside Hell in a Cell with the 6-foot-3, nearly 300-pound juggernaut is a ridiculously scary proposition, but if Punk could break Ryback's food chain, he'd have a victory that would silence the doubters and possibly make his WWE Championship reign be viewed as one of the very best of all time. There may not ever be a greater proving ground match for The Straight Edge Superstar than the one that stands in front of him right now.

Simply put, Ryback could be the Andre the Giant to Punk's Hulk Hogan.

WWE Monday Night RAW Results: 10/8/2012

WWE Monday Night RAW RESULTS:10/8/2012 in SACRAMENTO, Calif.
John Cena addressed the WWE Universe

True to his word, John Cena was in the house for Monday Night Raw in Sacramento, Calif., making his first Monday night appearance in two weeks sans sling (but sporting some intricate-looking recovery strips on his injured arm) to address the WWE Universe. And, seemingly re-invigorated by his return to Raw, the Cenation leader gave a rousing speech that was ebullient even for him, including an alternate name for Team Hell No and (to the delight of the California crowd) a proposition to Raw General Manager AJ Lee: a date at In-N-Out Burger. But when it came to the matter of CM Punk, Cena was all business and the trademark smile faded away as he repeated his solemn vow to the WWE Universe: One arm, two arms, injured or not, the Cenation leader would make his way to Hell in a Cell to challenge for the WWE Title. As a final appeal to The Second City Saint, Cena bellowed, "don't be a punk: agree to face me and define your legacy at Hell in a Cell!"

All that would have been enough for the WWE Universe, but the assembled crowd got an extra treat when Ryback made his presence known, thundering down to the ring for his match, though not before sharing a moment of mutual respect with the Cenation leader.

WWE Champion CM Punk fought Mr. McMahon until Ryback interrupted; The Chairman gave Punk an ultimatum for Hell in a Cell

As it turned out, CM Punk vs. Mr. McMahon wasn't much of a match, as the bell never rang to signal the beginning of the contest. That said, it was one undeniably epic fight.

The brutality began early, when Punk attacked The Chairman from behind before he could even take to the ring. The Second City Saint showed no mercy in the man he once considered his chief tormentor, battering The Boss about the ring before Mr. McMahon began to show signs of life. The Chairman gave as good as he got, pummeling Punk on the outside and even catching some air as he leaped over the announce table to pounce on The Second City Saint while he lied prone amid the announce chairs. Mr. McMahon's acquisition of a kendo stick from beneath the ring sent Punk scurrying. But when The Chairman laid hands on Punk's beloved WWE Title (decking Heyman to get it in the process) and dared him to come and get it, The Voice of the Voiceless was left with no choice but to retaliate.

And retaliate he did. Once Punk got his hands on a kendo stick of his own, he went mano-a-mano with The Chairman, and an expert possum play led to a low blow that left Mr. McMahon sprawled across the ring. After dishing another battering with the two kendo sticks, Punk finally hauled The Chairman up for the Go to Sleep, and it seemed there were very few words from anyone that could have stopped the onslaught at that point.

And then, right on cue, two of them erupted through the loudspeakers:

"FEED ME."

For the third time, Ryback made a beeline for the WWE Champion and, with an assist from John Cena, this time "Big Hungry" hit paydirt, cutting The Second City Saint down with a clothesline before lifting Punk into the air for Shell Shocked ... until Punk squirmed off Ryback's grip and, in a strange repeat from his infamous exit at Money in the Bank, exited through the crowd.

McMahon, down but not out, got to his feet, grabbed the mic and presented Punk with an ultimatum: At Hell in a Cell, he would either face John Cena or Ryback. And if the champion hadn't made up his mind in seven days ... well, The Chairman would make it for him.
