ALEX RILEY DISMISSED FROM RAW

Alex Riley was challenged by John Cena on Raw under the stipulation that if he were to lose, he would be fired as The Miz’s apprentice. The Anonymous Raw General Manager decreed that the match would be contested via Steel Cage Match, with the only way to win would be to escape the cage. Despite assistance from the Miz, who promised not to interfere with the match, Riley lost when Cena forced his way out of the cage.

MATT HARDY TALKS ABOUT JOHN CENA

Matt Hardy on John Cena’s promo on Raw in response to The Rock: Umm I actually caught the highlights back on YouTube. Actually thought that’s something John’s needed for a while. He just kind of needed an edge because the ‘PG thing’ is one thing that I think TNA they have an advantage over WWE it’s like I don’t think they have to go crazy as far as bleeding or swearing or sex, violence, whatever. It’s nice they don’t have a super tight parameter to be in and all these boundaries.

“For the longest time John would come on and go ‘Yeah and all this PG and all this PG.’ It’s just like I think pushing your audience, like the 18-to-34 you’re looking for out the door, it’s like I don’t want to hear that and for John to have that little edge again. I think that was important. He needed that you know. They’re not in the grand scheme of things [WWE targeting an 18-to-34 audience], but when it comes down to advertising bucks and the demographics. That’s the demographics that make money. In the big scheme of things that’s what it’s all about.”

RAW went off air 2/28/11

After Monday’s RAW went off the air, the advertised dark match of John Cena and Randy Orton vs. The Miz and CM Punk (with Michael Cole as guest referee) took place. Towards the end of the match, Michael Cole was chased off and Randy Orton hit RKO’s on Punk and Miz for the win. To end the show, Cena thanked the fans for coming and took some parting shots at The Rock. Cena and Orton greeted fans in the crowd to end the show.

- Triple H, The Rock, Evan Bourne and Alex Riley were among the wrestlers whose names were trending worldwide on Twitter during Monday’s RAW.

- Before getting attacked by WWE Champion The Miz last night, United States Champion Daniel Bryan was scheduled to face William Regal, according to the WWE website.

- It appears that Alex Riley might be done as The Miz’ sidekick following A-Ri’s loss to John Cena on RAW.

- Nexus member McGillicutty was written off RAW last night after a punt kick from Randy Orton.

John Cena def. Alex Riley in a Steel Cage Match

Rarely has social media been so unsociable. During a Steel Cage Match between John Cena and Alex Riley, WWE Champion The Miz used his cell phone to tweet out a photo of his WrestleMania opponent with his face pressed against the unforgiving steel grid. He then tossed the phone to Riley, who used it to clock his opponent in the face.

In the end, though, Riley lost the match – and his job as a result. As stipulated, the frat-boy fighter was forced to retire as Miz’s apprentice after his defeat. The Cenation Commander-in-Chief did not celebrate long, however, before Miz ambushed him with a Skull Crushing Finale onto the cold, hard arena floor.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson rebutted John Cena’s comments from last week

After suffering a barrage of verbal grenades from John Cena the week prior, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returned fire. The host of WrestleMania mocked the Dr. of Thuganomic’s rapping skills. He then went on to tell the WWE Universe that Cena unjustly called him a liar, that he “loves the WWE” and that he will soon confront Cena face-to-face.

HULK HOGAN TALKS ABOUT JOHN CENA

In an interview with RosenbergRadio.com, TNA Star Hulk Hogan had the following to say on The Rock's return speech which he believes destroyed John Cena's reputation:

"They've spent so much time building John Cena up," Hogan said. "There's a way to really build somebody up, but all of a sudden within three or four seconds, he had the whole arena screaming that Cena sucks."

"Sometimes I don't understand the philosophy. John Cena is going to be there all the time. Even though The Rock said he's back, he's only back for one day. He's not going to be there wrestling every single day like John Cena is, really holding it down and really keeping it real. All that stuff is scripted. They had Stephanie McMahon and the writers telling The Rock exactly what to say. I just didn't understand why they would want to destroy Cena so quickly."

Press Release: WWE Lands Major TV Clearance In Brazil

WWE released the following press release on Tuesday announcing a major new TV clearance in Brazil:

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)– WWE Inc. (NYSE:WWE – News) and Esporte Interativo today announced a one year agreement which will bring WWE’s weekly flagship TV show WWE Raw® to Brazilian Free TV beginning in March 2011.

Launching on March 2 at 10pm, Brazil’s biggest sports channel Esporte Interativo will bring the global entertainment company’s longest-running TV program to more than 33 million television households across Brazil.

WWE Raw is a unique form of entertainment featuring WWE Superstars Triple H®, John Cena®, Randy Orton®, The Miz™, Sheamus™, CM Punk® and many more. Viewers can tune in to watch all the excitement unfold every week on Esporte Interativo channels: 36 (Sao Paulo), 9 (Sao Jose dos Campos), 26 (Campinas), 58 (Mogi das Cruzes) and 43 (Santos), as well as with Oi TV (515) and Via Embratel (48).

According to Mauricio Portela, Production Vice President for Esporte Interativo, this deal is part of the channel’s strategy to expand and diversify the content of the program schedule. “We are investing in new attractions and planning varied programming. WWE programming was consistently requested among our viewers and we are delighted to be able to deliver WWE Raw to our viewers,” said Portela.

Announcing the deal, Andrew Whitaker, Executive Vice President of International for WWE, said “This new agreement is part of WWE’s further extension into Latin America with Brazil being the linchpin. Cena mentions Miz on Twitter & More

- John Cena tweeted the following on Monday night about The Rock, The Miz and Monday’s RAW:

“CeNation. Handle bizz on sunday…check …let rock know im not a pushover…check…win tag titles…check…realize how much of a self centered egotistical rat bastard dowsh bag the miz is…..check. yer in my sights now kid. The world will soon know if u got it or u don’t. Other than that I had a blast tonight. Fresno was ON FIRE!”

- Although the war of words between John Cena and The Rock is heating up by the week, there are no immediate plans for the two of them to have a match. The door is still open for John Cena and The Rock to have a “dream match” down the road, possibly at next year’s WrestleMania 27, but at this time, there are no plans for The Rock to wrestle another match in WWE.

That said, chances are good that we’ll see The Rock get physically involved at WrestleMania in some capacity.

- WWE’s official website is acknowledging the rapid-fire tag title changes from Monday’s RAW. For those who missed it, John Cena and The Miz captured the tag titles from Justin Gabriel. CORRE leader Wade Barrett said he wanted to invoke Slater and Gabriel’s rematch clause right then and there, which the anonymous RAW General Manager approved. Slater and Gabriel re-captured the belts after The Miz turned on John Cena.

The WWE website lists Slater and Gabriel as 3-time tag team champions.

Update: WWE Champion The Miz VS John Cena

For John Cena, the Road to WrestleMania has become a familiar path, one he’s ridden many times with great success. For WWE Champion The Miz, however, the Road to WrestleMania is a road less traveled. And perhaps that will make all the difference when the two meet in Atlanta at their WWE Title Match.

Although The Miz would argue he’s paid his dues in WWE and deserves his celebrated status, the fact is, he’s employed some underhanded tactics during his ascent. He cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on a battered Randy Orton to seize the championship. And during a title defense against Jerry “The King” Lawler, The Awesome One would likely have lost were it not for interference from sycophant Michael Cole. Even though his methods remain questionable, there’s no arguing that Miz continues finding ways to retain WWE’s most prized possession.

For his part, John Cena enjoys the experience that comes with having earned the WWE Championship an impressive seven times. In order to main-event WrestleMania, the Cenation Commander-in-Chief had to plow through five formidable Superstars inside the Elimination Chamber – Randy Orton, John Morrison, R-Truth, King Sheamus and CM Punk – before pivoting to his current target: WWE Champion The Miz.

When these two Superstars enter the ring on April 3, the contest will be between a young, resourceful and headstrong champion willing to do just about anything to stay on top and a strong, experienced veteran with uncanny determination and a storied list of accomplishments. Can the ever-impressive Cena notch his eighth WWE Championship? Or will the wily Miz somehow find a way – yet again – to remain king of the mountain?
